A family farm dedicated to providing quality products to consumers in the Mid-Atlantic region while conserving its resources for future generations.
Farming is a family tradition at Hillcrest Farm. Hillcrest Farm has been in the VanReenen family since 1824. Hillcrest Farm is a registered Charolais farm, an all-white cattle breed, with 130 head of cattle. Hillcrest Farm aims to provide quality products to consumers in the Mid-Atlantic region while conserving its resources for future generations.
Shortly after being married, Thomas and Linda acquired an additional farm in 1979, which evolved into Hillcrest Farm along with the original farm purchased in 1824. Thomas and Linda grew up on family farms in the area. Thomas is a United States Air Force veteran and previously worked in farm machinery sales before farming full-time. His wife, Linda, taught at Pocahontas County High School for over 30 years. Today, Thomas and Linda, alongside their son, Timothy and his wife, Lauren, run the Hillcrest Farm operation.
Their son, Timothy, attended Virginia Tech for Agricultural and Applied Economics and Career and Technical Education degrees. The farm consists of owned and rented land around Hillsboro. While Charolais cattle are the heart of the operation today, the farm also raises commercial cattle, hay, barley, corn, oats, soybeans, and timber. Hillcrest Farm was nominated for the American International Charolais Environmental Stewardship Award in 2014.
Through the years, the farm acreage and operations have grown; however, the VanReenen family's core is a family farm that values hard work and faith in God. It is because of God they can build their legacy of producing food for the world and conserving their natural resources for the next generation.
